Why the name Hope Church?

The city of New Orleans is a fantastic city with much to celebrate but one that also has great need for hope. People in New Orleans put hope in the rebuilding process, they put hope in celebrations, they put hope in religious faith. We believe that Christ is the only hope for hurts, addictions, and hang-ups. There are many New Covenant texts that talk about Christ our Hope.

Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope - the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

Colossians 1:27-28 To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.

2 Timothy 4:9-10 This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance (and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.

Why the tree in the logo?

One of our favorite chapters in God's Word is Psalm 1. This chapter depicts people who delight in Scripture as a tree planted by rivers of water. It is our conviction that God's Word and Spirit work in tandem. As the Spirit illumines and applies the Word of God to people's hearts and minds the impact is similar to that of water in the life of a tree. The tree "bears fruit in season, its leaf does not wither and whatever it is used for is prosperous." We believe that Christ is the Word of God in physical form (John 1), and that the Scriptures testify of Him (Luke 24:27,44). We desire to lead people to love Christ, God's Word incarnate, by delighting in the Scriptures, God's Word written (2 Tim 3:16-17) so that God might be glorified in them (Rev 5:13). Ultimately, Christ in us is the hope of glory (Col 1:27). A faith relationship with Christ grounded in the truth of God's Word and enlivened by the life of God's Spirit is the only hope of a lost and dying world.
